| FORDYCE GRANULES (OR SPOTS FORDYCE GRANULES (OR SPOTS) -- You can see the little white/yellow bumps on the buccal mucosa. --They are ususal flat to slightly elevated areas of white/yellow in color. -- They are ectopic sebacious glands. --There is no treatment. -- Seen in 8/10 patients, common in older patients. Fordyce's Granules (ectopic sebaceous glands) are most commonly seen on the buccal mucosa. They may be quite diffusely distributed (Left Image) or are sometimes rather discretely clustered (Right Image). These "lesions" are completely benign and do not need to be biopsied. Histologically, Fordyce's Granules consist of ectopic sebaceous glands (large arrow) beneath a normal, intact surface epithelium (small arrow) |
