we as Syrian doctor in the USA will start the new project to help the new students to complete thier study in USA and for I will start by preparing some presentations about how to do residency in US and some lectures in the University of Damascus and Aleppo .
and we had foundationed new committee to help the student.
January 28, 2006 Dear colleagues, A few days ago, a group of residency applicants from Aleppo University (Samer Alnabhan, Mohammed Daif and Mohammed Fattal), others from Damascus University (Bassel Ericsousi and Hani Habal) and us (Bassel Atassi and Ayman Haykal) attended the annual meeting of the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) in Chicago. SAMS is a non-profit, non-political, educational and humanitarian organization. Its members are medical professionals of Syrian descents. The objectives of SAMS encompass a range of professional, educational, humanitarian and cultural activities (for more information, please visit www.sams-usa.net). A concept was established at the meeting. Support is to be provided to Syrian medical students who aim at continuing their medical education in the United States and obtaining residencies here. Bassel Atassi was selected to be the Coordinator of a new Applicant/Resident Support Committee, as he will be residing in Chicago for the coming year. The mission is to provide help for new applicants who are planning to start residency training in the US, by helping them to find an easy way to participate in the residency match and by providing sufficient information (based on experiences of previous Syrian applicants) about residency programs, application requirements, CV improvement, finding observerships, and providing useful news updates. A project we are currently working on is designing a special section for future residents and applicants in the new SAMS website that is expected to go online soon. The section will contain useful information for applicants and future residents. We are very enthusiastic and we have many plans that could be done under SAMS support. However, what we need most is active and supportive shabab! The success of the idea depends on you. We would like to hear your ideas and suggestions. Please share your mind with us and let us know what kind of support you would like to get from such a committee, what kind of information you would like to find in the website and what would make it most useful for you. Any feedback, ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. We will also need help from those who participated in this year’s match by listing the main obstacles they faced. This will help us identify problems and look for solutions. Please spread the word by sending this email to everybody who might be interested. We do believe that this is a first step toward creating a united and organized US-based Syrian medical community whose members can always stand as one. Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the next SAMS conference that will be held in Damascus between June 24 and 29, 2006. The conference will include lectures, operations and exchangeable experiences presented by Syrian American physicians. We wish you the best of luck with your exams, studies, and residency search. I think u.ve heard about SAM..........SAM gonna help the guys who intend doing their residency in the united states.They r in the begining ....so they need to hear from u........they give u their hand......wt is the proper way to start right
plz this is a big oppurtunity should be invested properly . we need to work cooperatively in a team. all of us like to help others.
