| The first step in evaluating lower extremities edema is to decide whether it is a pitting edema or non pitting. Brother ahmad use your fingure to apply pressure on the shin of your wife's leg or any other bony surface, hold the pressure for about 3 seconds then let go. See if your fingure leaves an impression (a depression in the skin). If that happens then it is a pitting edema if not it is non pitting. The differential diagnosis is totally different for these two kind. Let us know what you find and we'll try to help you further. Also important to tell us if there is swelling in other places (especially around the eyes in the morning) and if there is an y other symptoms especially shortness of breath. Insha'Allah she'll get well soon. |
